Building all cars for the starting Line up at the 12h Reims 1964
While entertaining the idea for a larger h0 slot car track built to scale my friend Tom Druckenmiller introduced me to the Circuit Reims-Gueux. He was considering the Track to be his new project. After offering drawings of the pits form images, I came upon an intriguing image of the home straight after the race in 1964.
After Tom abended the idea, I took over and the very image would set the goal for what I wanted to achieve modelling the track. Besides the significant buildings of the various sites the amount of people attending the race would bring the layout alive.
Some time has passed since the project started in 2015. Along the process many skills had to be acquired. What made also interesting was the fact that all things had to be built from scratch by myself. I did all the landscaping, build all structures and painted the backdrop. Tom Druckenmiller made the Poste #2, and I did not rout the track myself.
The next step would be to complete the layout with all the cars participated in the 12 Hours Reims 1964.
For the cars I would usually rework existing bodies into protypes. My first attempts followed the same path besides using resin castings made form diecast models in 1:64. For the staring lineup the limitations quickly be apparent. Because I had been practicing with 3D architectural rendering the idea using it on modeling slot cars seemed an interesting solution. Many hours practicing and several attempts in printing bodies there are samples showing promising results.
